FAQRefractometers and Brix Meters

Refractometers and Brix Meters

Q
Can solid samples and samples with solid content be measured?
A

KEM refractometers are exclusively for liquids, so solid samples cannot be measured.
For nonuniform liquids with solid content, measurement takes time because the measurement values will not stabilize while particles are precipitating onto the prism.
In addition, if the light is scattered by the particles, this might have an impact on the measured values and repeatability.
For this reason, samples should ideally be uniform solutions.
