Refractometers and Brix Meters

Q
What factors affect measurement accuracy?
A

Some of the factors affecting measurement accuracy are listed below.

  • Sample evaporation and moisture absorption during the measurement
  • Scattering of light by particles in the sample
  • Temperature fluctuations during the measurement
  • With carbonic acid and other effervescent samples, bubbles adhere to the prism, causing the light to scatter.

In addition to these, sample non-uniformity and dirt adhering to the prism will likely have an effect on the measurement results.
